The Church and the Transgender Movement - biblical, cultural and pastoral perspectives to equip local churches

Building on last year's module on The Sexual Revolution, this is a unique opportunity to consider the many challenges to the church from the current transgender movement. Our speakers will seek to equip us with scriptural insight, cultural understanding, medical knowledge and pastoral wisdom.

This module is aimed particularly at those with leadership responsibilities in churches. However, the teaching will be very relevant for those with family responsibilities and
those for whom this issue has become significant in the workplace and in community life.

He is part of the leadership team at Barnabas Community Church, is the founder of Jubilee+ and now works with a number of church-based charities in the UK. Martin is training Director for ChristCentral and has co-authored three books about the church’s engagement with issues of social justice in the UK.

Dr Julie Maxwell: Dr Julie Maxwell is based in Basingstoke with her husband and 3 (almost grown up) children. She is a Community Paediatrician as well as working part-time for Lovewise (a charity which helps parents, youth groups and schools teach children and young people about marriage, sex and relationships from a Christian perspective). Over the past 5 years she has become increasingly concerned about the rise in young people questioning their gender identity. Julie is enthusiastic about supporting young people and families to understand God's good design for life. She has been involved in youth and children's work for her whole adult life! Julie is also on the Church of England General Synod. In her spare time she can usually be found in a coffee shop or the gym!
